July 16 - 28 Outreach

This outreach team included Lisa Goodell, Lisa Rush, Zack Barnill, Emmalee Scheibe, Scott Norvell, Mckenna Rush, We enjoyed them all so much and they brought so many gifts and skills to Genesis. I am always so impress when adults (as well as youth) take a week of their vacation time to come to help us an support us here at Genesis. With skilled people like this team, it was so evident that they really had a love for God as well as a love for the special kids at Genesis. Mike Unternahrer

"I’m Lisa Goodell from Fresno, CA and I had the enormous privilege of serving at Genesis! While we were there staff and volunteers from Wellspring Camp (for kids with special needs in Georgia) came down and put on a fabulous day camp for Genesis.  Wow, what fun-filled days we had – games, singing, crafts, pool and pizza day – fun, fun, fun! It was a highlight to know that teachers and parents were getting involved in trainings to help their kids improve communication and behavior issues. Our SI team was able to squeeze in some time to organize and assess almost half the students on the motor portion of the Battelle Developmental test.  What a blessing it was to see how God is using Genesis staff & families to improve life for the precious kiddos that go to school there".

What a great time we had with the kids helping lead the worship.

July 2-14 Outreach

Today ends our fourth outreach of the summer and I still can't believe that the summer is over half over.  My life has been so blessed by the kids and teachers of GĂ©nesis and I am cherishing every  moment spent here.  While Mike and Karen are in the States for their daughter's wedding for the first half of the outreach, Tyler and I did our best to continue working one-on-one with students, communicate with the teachers, and keep the peace during recess.  I am so thankful that Sissy Entrekin has been willing to come every day to help translate and teach us more efficient ways to reach and teach the kids academically, physically, and spiritually.  Needless to say, we are always exhausted at the end of each day, but God is faithful and is providing for every need that arises.  Please continue praying for willing hearts, love, endurance, and patience with students for the outreach teams, Tyler and myself, Mike and Karen, and the teachers that spend any amount of time here at the school.
"You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored?
It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet.
You are the light of the world.  A city on a hill cannot be hidden.
Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house.
In the same way, let your light so shine before others,
so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."
Matthew 5:13-16

Mrs. Duran  playing baseball with Juan Carlos.
I came to visit my daughter who works at the Medical Site.  I brought my son Adrian to intern at the Boys Sports Site.  I decided to volunteer at Genesis.  We both are here for only one week, but so far I have nothing but positive experiences.  My week started with teaching Math to the children, one on one, in twenty minute segments.  It was amazing to see the abilities of all the children.  The following day we took the children for a walk in the park.  We had such a great time.  Another day we did face painting.... There are so many wonderful blessings I am thankful for including the love of the children that I am working with, the time I got to spend with them, the teachers at Genesis that give their time and energy to every child day in and out, and the other volunteers who I have gotten to know a little bit better by spending time alongside them in the classrooms. May their work be blessed.

Claire reading to Juan Carlos
My time here at Genesis has been absolutely amazing. I can see God working in my and through me. The kids here can really teach you what real love is just with a simple smile or hug. Its amazing the gifts God has given to each of them and the things they are capable of doing. My first week here my faith and mental strength in myself was tested but the lord filled me with his grace and my experience here at Genesis has taught me a lot about my personal relationship with God. I am blessed to have  had the experience that i was given in these two weeks.

Craig doing some work for Maribel
I came to Genesis last year and work with Maribel class. Last year Maribel was a teacher and this year to my surprise she is a director of Genesis. When I came here last year, I have experience the kids that so lovable and at times they fight but we worked on not fighting that much. This year was so amazing to see the same kids but some are different. I have worked on Reading and Math with Tyler and follow Jlyissa around once. I like working with kids with disablites because this remind me on my day in school back in the states. I have been amaze on the children doing and actions. At times I dont like the things they do but I have try to figure it out why they are doing. And the teachers are very active and fun to be around, even through I dont understand on what they are saying but I have fun to be around. May the Children and the Teachers work be blessed.

Andrew and Junior
I have had a wonderful time working at genesis over the past two weeks. It has been a very humbling experience and has taught me a lot of patience. The school is a great place and the kids love it here. Whether its wrestling and dogpiles during recess, or coloring and drawing, the kids always have a smile on their face.
